Description: This route was offered in 2006 and 2012. It is also available as a permanent. This is a challenging, scenic 200k route with about 8,900 feet of elevation gain starting in Hood River, Oregon. The route follows the scenic highway along the Columbia River, through the Twin Tunnels trail to The Dalles and continues along the Oregon Trail through the wheat fields east of The Dalles to Dufur, Oregon. From Dufur the route climbs to the BSA Camp Baldwin and the Mt. Hood National Forest. There are picture perfect views of Mt. Hood and a great decent to OR 35, the Mt. Hood Highway. The route continues to Cooper Spur Ski Area resort where there is a long downhill to Parkdale Oregon. From Parkdale the route returns to the start via the Dee Highway, Tucker Road and Oak Grove. Parking for the ride is at the Hood River Marina parking lot next to the Hood River Bridge. Unfortunately the Port will close the showers for the season on October 1.

Route Update: The route has been updated to replace 2.8 miles, the segment from Cooper Spur Resort to the Ski Resort, because of deteriorating pavement and steep grade. A new out and back on South Valley Road has been added. The short segment through Boyd has been eliminated to keep the total distance at 200k.
Preride 9/24/2016: Miles ~86 & ~97: Watch for rough pavement and potholes on descent. There are some potholes that are easy to miss in the shadows. Mile ~63.6, about 1 mile past the turn onto South Valley Road. There is a dog that will chase and bark. Does not appear to be aggressive, but she will give you a good barking.
If you are going to be riding in the dark, you might want to bring a light to read the information controls. The answers might be difficult to see in the dark. If Hood River Traffic is heavy downtown, watch out for desperate drivers, wanting to live dangerously, and cross traffic.
