The Cold and Windy Road
Bikenfest 2009 is history. Fourteen riders started and finished the 200k Bikenfest route. The results are posted here. The weather was cooler than normal with temperatures between 48 and 60 degrees. The winds were generally favorable with NW winds at 14 mph gusting to 22 mph after 3 pm. There was enough rain to make things wet for several hours with a total of 2/100ths inch accumulation mid morning in The Dalles.
The cold NW wind and sprinkles made the finish a welcome experience for everyone. It was cold enough that a warm pizza parlor would have worked better for the finish than the Hops Fest. There were many flat tires apparently due to goats head thorns blowing across the road way. Many thanks to all of the courageous riders who braved the weather forecast, dared a Kramer brevet and tempted the Hood River Hops Fest. A special thanks to Paul Whitney for taking care of the Maryhill control.
Cecils photos are here.
