I purchased a new Garmin eTrex Vista HCx several months ago and was surprised to see it connect to satellites from my desk in the basement. I should be able to get gps tracks in deep canyons like Skate Creek now. I added a 2 gigabyte micro SD card and loaded all of the maps and geodata for North America. I still have enough room to store all of my GPS tracks for the rest of my bike riding life time. The Garmin Map Source software has been updated and now has the ability to edit, split, splice and extend tracks. It is on sale at REI now and based on my price research on ebay and google, the REI $219 price is as good as any and better than most. It is on sale until November 26th.
