OBM1200 ISEP Day 5

John Day to Condon

This is a 200km route that starts with a four mile trip to historic Canyon City. The route follows US-26 along the John Day River through Mt. Vernon and Dayville where there are limited services to OR-19 where the route turns north through the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. The route continues north along the river to Spray where there are limited services. The route continues along the river for another 12 miles to Service Creek where there is a store and cafe. The road from Service Creek features a 10 mile climb along Cougar Mountain road to Fossil. The route goes through Fossil where there is a store and cafe. After Fossil, there are two more hills on the way to Condon and the days end at the Condon Motel. There are several choices for places to eat and stay in Condon.

JB's Grill and Eatery is located on the way into Condon on OR-19 just before the junction of OR-206. Also located on Main Street is a Bank of Eastern Oregon and a grocery named Two Boy's Meat and Grocery. The Condon Hotel is located on Main Street at the corner of Main and Gilliam and there is a cafe across the street from the Condon Hotel. One block later the route turns east on Walnut Street. The route turns north after three blocks to the John Day Highway and the Condon Motel.
